2nd, 3rd & 4th year semester information and key dates

Confirmation of improvements for all continuing Bachelor of Nursing & Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery students

Starting in 2025, we've made exciting improvements to the semester calendar for Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery students:

Semester 1 will now commence on 27 January 2025, allowing for dedicated teaching, assessment, and placement periods throughout the semester. These improvements stem from feedback received from students, academics, and placement providers, all aimed at enhancing your program.

These changes are designed to ensure a solid theoretical foundation to ensure and better prepare you for successful clinical placements.

What does this mean for you?

You'll have structured time for each stage of your units, eliminating the need to juggle lectures, assessments, and placements, allowing you to focus and maximize your learning experience.

Revised calendar:

To ensure a solid foundation before you embark on your clinical placements, there will be an early start each semester for students studying 2nd, 3rd or 4th year units.

Each semester will begin 4 weeks earlier and include dedicated time for teaching, assessment, labs and placement.

  • Semester 1 will begin on 27 January 2025
  • Semester 2 will begin on 23 June 2025

1st-year students will continue to follow the standard academic calendar.

Teaching

The first six weeks of each semester will be dedicated to coursework. This includes tutorials, learning activities, and labs as relevant, with some assessments being completed during this time. No placements will take place during this period.

Assessment

At the end of the teaching period, a dedicated assessment week will be scheduled. During this week, no teaching or placements will take place, allowing you ample time to focus on completing your summative assessments.

This also means you can focus on your clinical placement without the added burden of academic assignments. Exams will still take place during the designated exam period.

Intensive Labs (Blended students only)
Your intensive labs will be completed over a dedicated 2-week period, which will be the same for all three campuses. This improvement aims to spread the lab teaching out more efficiently and reduce pressure on you.

Placement

Prior to commencing your clinical placement, you will have already completed your coursework and summative assessments, allowing you to concentrate on your placement experience.

Your placement may be held anytime during the placement period, and the length of placement will continue to correspond to the units you are enrolled in that Semester. You will know your placement details well in advance, providing you with more time to plan your life.
