Shrubs
Shrubs make great screening plants, filling the gaps between larger trees. Annual pruning will keep the dense, bushy shape that most gardeners and wildlife prefer and encourage profuse flowering.
A diverse shrub layer is probably the most important addition to your planting scheme if you wish to attract visiting or resident native animals to your garden.
