About David Haymes
David Haymes was raised in Ballarat and educated at Pleasant Street Primary School and Ballarat College. After leaving school, David worked for Paddles Shoes from 1961 to 1966 before leaving for Melbourne to work at Hush Puppies. Upon returning to Ballarat in 1967, David married Jenny Faull and commenced employment at Henry Haymes Pty Ltd the Paint Manufacturing Company founded by his father Henry. In 1974 David was appointed Managing Director and at the time of his passing in June 2021, was Chair of the Haymes Board.
Throughout his life David showed a strong willingness to be involved with community service, mainly through the Apex service club in his early family years, and with many other organisations in later years. David also understood the importance of life long learning and over a three year period in the mid ‘90s undertook an owner management program with the Harvard Business School in Boston.
David’s connection to Federation University was as a member of the University’s Council, and Chair of the School of Business Advisory Board. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2002 by the University in recognition of his outstanding service to small business and the region.
The David Haymes Scholarship has been established by his family in recognition of David’s passion for Ballarat, for Federation University and lifelong learning.
