Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI)
Through applied research, commercial activities and community engagement CeRDI promotes innovation through the application of new technologies. The Centre has established a strong reputation for quality services delivered across a diverse range of sectors, including agriculture, law, health, natural resources and sport and recreation.

CIAO is internationally recognised for pure and applied research in optimisation, data mining, internet commerce security, virtual reality and simulation, and health informatics.

Geotechnical and Hydrogeological Engineering Research Group (GHERG)
GHERG works closely with government and industry to further improve the safety and sustainability of the open-cut mines that surround the Gippsland Campus. Funded by the Victorian Government (through the Department of Primary Industries), GHERG focuses on the key issues affecting open-cut mines in the Latrobe Valley, including slope stability, groundwater impacts, environmental rehabilitation and the long-term sustainability of mine sites.
Health Innovation and Transformation Centre
Federation University’s Health Innovation and Transformation Centre (HITC) has been established to improve the health and wellbeing of regional and rural populations and ensure that people get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Established in 2021, the Future Regions Research Centre (FRRC) brings together expert research and local knowledge to tackle challenges ranging from the transition towards new energy to helping regional communities recover from bushfire and drought.

Established in 2022, the Centre for Smart Analytics (CSA) brings together expertise from across Federation University and its partner organisations. Centre for New Energy Transition Research
Established in 2022, the Centre for New Energy Transition Research (CfNETR) responds to the pressing need for research, training and skills development in new energy.
This need is particularly urgent in regional Australia, where legacy modes of power generation are being joined by multimodal and widely distributed forms of new energy generation, transmission and storage.

Collaborative Evaluation and Research Group
The Collaborative Evaluation & Research Group (CERG) works in partnership to build evaluation capacity, research and expertise. CERG understands the value of listening to the community and has the ability to deliver timely, rigorous and sustainable evaluations tailored to the needs of a wide variety of organisations. CERG provides training, workshops and mentoring to build capacity to enable organisations to conduct meaningful evaluations.
