School of Arts
Our university has a long tradition of original hands-on research and our school is home to an active, innovative and diverse research practice.
Approximately half of our research programs focus on education - encompassing lifelong learning - including early education, primary, secondary, vocational education and training, as well as adult and community education.
Other programs investigate issues to do with history, culture and society. Creative research in the School of Arts crosses diverse visual, performing and trans-disciplinary arts practice and theory to explore the ways in which art creates meaning, expresses experience and guides our understanding.
School of Education
Research into teacher education is a major part of our research, supporting our teacher education programs in school education, early childhood education, and vocational education and training. Our researchers are active in policy research in these sectors.
Much of our publication activity addresses systematic disadvantage such as low socio-economic status, cultural diversity, regionality, and educational opportunities. We also have a focus in curriculum areas especially STEM.
School of Science, Psychology and Sport
The School of Science, Psychology and Sport has a wide range of health and science related disciplines. We have award-winning academics who combine teaching with internationally-recognised research to create a cutting-edge learning environment. Our researchers have a reputation for research that translates from 'region to the world'.
We also collaborate in interdisciplinary research particularly through the Biopsychosocial and eHealth Research and Innovation (BeRI) Hub and our Biological Sciences Research Group.
School of Health
“The School of Health is thrilled to receive an ERA ranking of ‘5’ - well above world standard - in the 2018 ERA results. This is a significant improvement on earlier rounds and demonstrates the dedicated work of the School and its nursing, midwifery and paramedic researchers who aim to produce research outcomes that have significant clinical research, policy and service impacts. As such the team’s overall focus is on improving clinical safety through workforce and education innovations that enhance clinical practice. Partnerships with numerous international industry partners have enabled a range of ground-breaking innovations with demonstrated changes to clinical practice and wide ranging research publications that are changing the nature of clinical and educational practice.”

School of Engineering, Information Technology and Physical Sciences
The School of Engineering, Information Technology and Physical Sciences offers a wide range of qualifications in the areas of science, information technology, mathematics and engineering, with programs ranging from higher education level diplomas through to higher degrees by research.
When you study with us you'll find smaller classes that provide easy access to teaching staff and our world-class equipment as you develop the advanced laboratory and field skills sought by employers. Federation Business School's research objectives are to:
- produce knowledge that contributes, regionally, nationally and internationally, to the broad study of business and management
- undertake research, consultancy and knowledge transfer which add value to industry and the community
- provide higher degree by research students with an experience of the highest quality.
