Leaving a legacy

Charitable bequests left to the Foundation have helped thousands of disadvantaged students achieve their dreams.

Leaving a gift in your will not only ensures your commitment to education lives on, but it also encourages the potential of future leaders.

A charitable bequest can take many forms, including:

• Pecuniary bequest: A fixed amount of money.
• Gift in-kind: A non-monetary donation, such as artworks, books, or property.
• Residual bequest: The remainder (or residue) of your estate after all debts, charges and gifts have been deducted.
• Percentage of residual bequest: A percentage of the remainder of your estate after all debts, charges and gifts have been deducted.
• Percentage bequest: A predetermined percentage of your total estate.

You can choose exactly how you wish to direct your gift. This may be designating it to a specific area or project - such as student scholarships, research efforts, or the provision of state-of-the-art facilities - or to the area with the most vital need.

Wording your will

Making a bequest to the University is as simple as including the following in your will:

1. Wording for a residuary bequest:
   I give and bequeath the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal to the Federation University (ABN 51 818 692 256) of PO Box 663 Ballarat, Victoria 3353, for its general purposes / research / facilities / education purposes / for the purposes of establishing a scholarship in the name of [NAME] and declare that the receipt at the time shall be sufficient.
2. Wording to leave a percentage of the residue of an estate:
   I give and bequeath _____________________ per cent of the residue of my estate to the Federation University (ABN 51 818 692 256) of PO Box 663 Ballarat, Victoria 3353, for its general purposes / research / facilities / education purposes / for the purposes of establishing a scholarship in the name of [NAME] and declare that the receipt at the time shall be sufficient.
3. Wording for leaving a percentage of the total estate:
   I give and bequeath _____________________ per cent of my estate to the Federation University (ABN 51 818 692 256) of PO Box 663 Ballarat, Victoria 3353, for its general purposes / research / facilities / education purposes / for the purposes of establishing a scholarship in the name of [NAME] and declare that the receipt at the time shall be sufficient.
4. Wording for leaving a fixed amount:
   I give and bequeath the sum of $______________ to the Federation University (ABN 51 818 692 256) of PO Box 663 Ballarat, Victoria 3353, for its general purposes / research / facilities / education purposes / for the purposes of establishing a scholarship in the name of [NAME] and declare that the receipt at the time shall be sufficient.

Carol Lynette Grant Prowse bequest

Carol Lynette Grant Prowse studied at Mt Helen Campus, graduating with a Diploma of Teaching in 1983. She went on to pursue a career in teaching and remained passionate about educating, inspiring her children.

Sadly, Carol passed away in 2015. The Carol Lynette Grant (Prowse) Scholarship was established in her honour and in recognition of her passion for education. Each year Carol Lynette Grant prowse bequest provides $7,000 to a student undertaking studies in higher education.
