GUIDE TO AUDITIONS

Monologue instructions

The monologue(s) must be memorised for the audition. Please ensure you learn the monologue(s) properly.

  • There will be no prompting at the audition.
  • Accents, costumes or props are not required.
  • We recommend that you read the play your monologue has been selected from. This will help in your detailed preparation of the piece. Publication details are included as part of the monologue.

Song instructions

Your song must be memorised and performed with piano accompaniment. The song should not exceed two minutes.

Please bring your backing track AND the sheet music of your song marked with any cuts or revisions. An accompanist will be provided at the live auditions. You cannot bring your own accompanist to your call-back audition.

For the first-round video audition, backing tracks are permitted but should be piano tracks only (not full band or orchestral). Having a live accompanist play for your video audition is permitted, but they should not be seen on screen.

Please note: applicants may be asked to undertake a short interview after the audition.

Video Audition (for Distance Candidates)

Create a short video of yourself performing your monologue and/or song choices.

Note: The footage can be simply created using a smartphone, iPad or personal camera. The video production quality does not have to be of a professional standard - keep it simple.

Upload your video to our Audition portal by the closing date.

Callbacks

Workshop Callbacks: if you are successful in your first-round video audition, you will be invited to a live workshop call back on December 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Please be prepared to present your song and monologue/s again.

Audition Feedback

Due to the large number of applicants that we see, we regret that we are not able to give feedback about your individual application. There is a far greater number of applicants than we have places available, so many high-quality applicants are considered each year. Should you be unsuccessful, or decide not to accept your offer, we welcome you to re-audition the following year, as we do not accept deferrals in the Bachelor of Music Theatre and Acting.
