Biography

Dr Stuart Levy is the Discipline Leader Pathways & Humanities, and a senior lecturer in the Institute of Education, Arts and Community at Federation University Australia. He has worked in higher education access pathways in regional Victoria for more than two decades and has expertise in developing, designing and successfully implementing pathways and concurrent support programs for non-traditional and under-represented student groups to promote wider participation in post-secondary education. This work has included international collaborations and been previously recognised with an Australian national award (2012 Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) Award for Programs that Enhance Learning, Widening Participation category). In 2006, he contributed to Sally Kift's Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Senior Fellowship project entitled Articulating a transition pedagogy to scaffold and enhance the first-year learning experience in Australian higher education. Stuart is currently a member of the NAEEA (National Association of Enabling Educators Australia) executive committee.

Stuart’s research interests include the efficacy of pathways to higher education, the transitions experienced by new, commencing and novice university students, and transitions in the international politics of climate change. He has published internationally in these fields and has presented at national and international conferences on issues relating to transition and the first-year experience, supporting diverse student cohorts, curriculum design to embed effective student learning practices and student engagement. Stuart hasan established record in leading academic staff teams in the delivery of sustainable, impactful pathway programs that underpin subsequent student achievement in higher education.
