There are four main areas to consider when working out how much it will cost to go to university:
View information about tuition fees and charges for higher education and TAFE programs.
These include transport costs, textbooks, internet connection, and additional equipment associated with your chosen program. Some programs of study require students to cover costs for compulsory excursions and internships.
FedLiving offers a number of accommodation options to suit a range of budgets and circumstances. Visit FedLiving for more information.
If you plan on renting privately there will be set-up costs to consider such as a fridge, washing machine, kitchen utensils, bedroom, and general furniture. The local newspaper and the opportunity shops are a great place to look for cheaper options.
Centrelink offers financial support for students - Youth Allowance for under 25s, Austudy for over 25s, and ABSTUDY for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. If you are eligible for financial support you may also eligible for bond and rent assistance through Centrelink. For more visit the Centrelink website (external website).
FedUni offers a variety of scholarships at both higher education and TAFE level. Not all scholarships are awarded for outstanding academic achievement. Some are aimed at regional and remote students; those experiencing financial hardship; or students who show leadership and commitment to their communities through participation in sports or other activities. To find out more visit the Scholarships website.
Centrelink offers relocation scholarships to eligible recipients of Youth Allowance and ABSTUDY who have to live away from the family home to study.
FedUni Student Support offers short-term emergency loans through the Mt Helen Campus and food vouchers from the Mt Helen and SMB campuses. To access these supports you will need to make an appointment with a counsellor. For more visit the Counselling website.
The Study Assist website may help you organise your finances.
