Don Johns passed away on Monday 12 June, 2017 at St John of God Hospital, Ballarat, aged 83.

A retired Pharmacist and three-time mayor of Horsham, he was a valued member of the Horsham community and was involved in a variety of groups and organisations.

He formed the Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation, (WHCGF), more than 20 years ago, and was the Foundation’s only Chairman in that time. He was also one of the driving forces behind the development of Wimmera Cancer Centre, which the WHCGF hopes will be built next year.

He was involved in various sporting clubs, including the Horsham Football & Netball Club and Horsham Little Athletics, and was also a Horsham Uniting Church Elder, Horsham City Lions Club charter member and a Masonic Lodge 60 year member.

In the past, he was recognised with an Order of Australia Medal and a Centenary Medal and, in 2014, received a Federation University Australia honorary doctorate.

Don was a Life Member of Keep Australia Beautiful, Wimmera Base Hospital and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and was a Justice of the Peace for more than 25 years.
